  • Question: Pee stream on 2014 250 4.2

My last outboard would flow at a low rate at a slow speed and at a very high rate at a faster speed. The new motor has a low to medium flow rate at all speeds. I have had many outboards and this is totally different. Is this normal? The motor does not run hot and the gauge reading are normal. I have the same problem, but then I am almost 70. But this new motor is a young buck....

    Completely normal.

If you go to the Yamaha Outboard Motor site, under FAQ's the below answer is provided to a water pressure question. That should explain both water pressure gauge indications and what appears to be a weak water stream. If you observe your stream carefully it is likely you will see a good amount of water flowing but at a not very great pressure.

All Yamaha outboards have a minimum water pressure of eleven (11) psi at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). There are no announced water pressure specs for low or mid-range operation at this time. This is due to our high volume low pressure cooling system design. In fact, you may see zero pressure at idle, as most water pressure sensors start working at 3-psi.
