the battery regulates the output.
once you get a bit more current/voltage you now must regulate it.
for regulation you start shunting(shorting) the excess to ground.
that's why alternators have cooling fans and larger v6 and 4 stroke yamaha's use water cooled.
and yes there is a big difference between an electricians mate and an electronics tech.
the half wave recitifier uses one half the AC sine wave, the full wave uses both.
I have seen folks make there own with components from radio shack.
the other tech at work has a Chinese built motorcycle,cant remember the brand, but its now using the regulator/rectifier from an F50TLRC.
2 reasons. 1 is the original is apparently made from unobtainium.
2 is I had a regulator on a blown F50.
