on the tiny mites its simply a rectifier. no regulation .
    the battery regulates the output.
once you get a bit more current/voltage you now must regulate it.
for regulation you start shunting(shorting) the excess to ground.
that's why alternators have cooling fans and larger v6 and 4 stroke yamaha's use water cooled.
and yes there is a big difference between an electricians mate and an electronics tech.
the half wave recitifier uses one half the AC sine wave, the full wave uses both.
I have seen folks make there own with components from radio shack.
the other tech at work has a Chinese built motorcycle, cant remember the brand, but its now using the regulator/rectifier from an F50TLRC.
2 reasons. 1 is the original is apparently made from unobtainium.
    2 is I had a regulator on a blown F50.

Sounds like you need that alternator Rod has been asking about or even better that generator you thought about before

if all you want is a space heater and popcorn from the nuucker, go solar.
you wont need the rectifier until you ad air conditioning .

but its a simple 3 phase stator that puts out about 6 amps at WOT.

remember there is only about two ways to generate an AC voltage.

spin a magnetic field around a coil.

spin a coil around a magnetic field.
