  • 2003 Yamaha F115 ( Won't Rev Up Past 3900 rpm) Help??!!!

    I hope you guys can help me. My boat sat longer than it should have, I went to run it and sure enough, it was bogging down, sputtering and just not running right, I drained the fuel, changed the water separator, fuel filter element, I removed the VST and cleaned it replaced the filter and installed new fuel injectors. I took it out for a test run and she ran like champ. I ran back and forth on the canal and after running for a half hour it just all of a sudden went into a limp mode like stage. It wasn't sputtering like before but it wouldn't rev up past 3900rpm. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

    Yamaha does not use the term "limp mode",
    but there are several conditions which will limit rpm.

    Low oil pressure, or overheat, will cause misfiring to limit rpms to ~2,000 -
    but along with that will be the audible alarm and the warning indicator on the tach.

    That model may - I'm not certain if it does or doesn't -
    have an rpm limit when in neutral;
    it does have a shift position switch -
    you could check that it is working.

    You can determine if it is a fuel problem or not
    by putting a pressure gauge on the fuel rail
    (there is a Schrader connector there for that purpose)

    see whether or not you have the required ~40 psi on the rail
    when it starts to crap out at 3900 rpm
