  • Exhaust guide with burnt hole in it

I have a 2005 VMAX V150TLRD with 710 hours on it. I have a burned a hole in the exhaust guide allowing smoke to fill cowling. I had to turn up the idle to keep it running. It is missing and running rough and I'm not sure if this is a symptom of the exhaust leak or something else. Do I have to pull the motor to replace the exhaust guide ? Can anyone direct me to a procedure to fix the exhaust guide ?

    Thanks

The only way you will be able to repair the exhaust guide would be removal of the cylinder head and take the head to a reputable machine shop. Investigate marine machine shop services.
If you are doing it yourself also invest in a good repair manual preferably one specific to your engine.

The power plant has to be removed to gain access to the exhaust guide which is in the mid-section. Removal of just a cylinder head won't do it.

You will need a Yamaha service manual but there are no step by step procedures listed in there that address this specific part.

        Exhaust Guide

Thank's, you pretty much confirmed my thinking. Can water get into the cylinders from the lower level of the exhaust guide ?
