  • Yamaha single engine binnacle control for dual stations

Do I need a single engine control (6x6-48205-45-00) and a second stations control (6x6-48205-54-00) for the dual stations, or do I need two of the second station controls? Their rigging catalog is very confusing, at least to me anyway.

    What model motor?

F40 with dual stations or F350 with dual stations?

For a dual station configuration there is one main station control box and one second station control box.

In the case of a top mounted control box the main station type would be a 6X6-48205-45-00 and the second station type would be a 6X6-48205-54-00.

So, there would be one main station control box

and one second station control box.

Those are the pictures I was looking at. It seems like the main station would be the 54 and the 2nd station would be the 45. If you use the 45 as a main station, then the schematic shows that the 2nd station would plug into the main station plug that goes to the outboard motor. The drawing does not show that there are two of the larger plugs on the main station. So how would that work. I am still confused.

The rigging guide is not intended to tell people how to do a mechanics job. It is a listing of rigging parts that are available. Diagrams in the rigging guide are of general nature only. They cannot possibly cover all of the various types of installations.

A dealer should be doing the installation. That is what he is trained to do.

DEC controls boxes are serialized and normally not available to individuals. These items must be installed by someone that knows how to do the installation. As part of that installation the dealer mechanic will certify the the installation has been performed to Yamaha's specifications and that all of the systems work as they are supposed to work.

None of the installation will be confusing to a Yamaha mechanic that has been trained to do the job. Furthermore, Yamaha mechanics have installation data that is not available to the general public, i.e. the boat owner.

Landing an Airbus A380 might be confusing to those that are not trained to do it. To a trained pilot, it is a piece of cake.

why do you make it sound so difficult when folks on other sites claim that the system is plug and play. I have the 54 main station and it has cable that read to 2nd station. Why would it say that when it is called a 2nd station unit. My plan is to do all of the installation and then take it to the dealer and have them do their check off and certification. I am the kind of person that like to do my own installation as much as I can. I have had numerous problems with the professional installation over the years like: bolts or screws stripped, misc items dropped in the bilge, hoses and cables installed and rubbing against sharp objects, loose connections, etc. The reason I am on this site is that the dealer I am working with is new to the Yamaha outboard motors and they are not up to speed yet. I know they can call Yamaha, but I was hoping that I could consult some experts on this site.
