Identification of Trim Switch

I'm looking for the replacement Trim switch in the throttle handle. Motor is C40TLRW. Motor says it's a 1997 model, but appears to be a 1998 as that model isn't even listed in 1997. The numbers on the switch are 10A250V, WI32 and T85. Couldn't find any of these numbers in the parts catalog.

Also, the switch works, but when you push in either direction it stays there. Shouldn't it have a spring return? When you take your thumb off the switch it returns to the neutral position? Or are you suppose to manually put back to the neutral switch position?

To answer your last question first, yes, the switch should return to the open position when it is released.

The switch is tied to the type of control box key switch, not the motor.

Go to the rigging section of the Yamaha parts catalog. That is where you will find the switch that you need and the applicable part number.

Thanks for the response. Looking at the switches it appears the control flush standard is the closest. But looking at the part itself looks much different.

I think this is a standard T85 switch. The trim button/lever in the throttle handle actually pushes against this switch to activate the trim. None of the parts in the rigging section look like this relay or would even fit.

However, I don't think I need a new one after all. I sprayed an ample amount of PB Blaster to free up the switch and now it does not stick. Once I get oil back into the trim with a new filter I'll be testing it out.

It is amazing what a bit of maintenance can do.

Two identical parts can be purchased. One is maintained and the other is not.

The part that gets maintenance will almost always be of better quality than the part that is not.
