Oil injection pump

i am in the middle of over hauling my 1987 90 hp outboard. i bought all new parts including a new oil pump. while installing pump it was clear that the pump shape has changed from the original. the new pump came with a adapter plate which fit perfictly. the problem came when i tried to bolt the pump to the adapter. it seems that i will have to grind away a small area on the powerhead block for the pump to fit.????? need help. by the way according to on-line parts manual i do have the correct pump.

That is what we have doing with the older blocks is to grind a little of block back to clear oil pump. You only have to do that on the 84-87 engines, it fits the others without any problem.
