  • Alarm from console at neutral from 70 hp four stroke

I get a loud beeping alarm from the console when the engine is in neutral. Its not overheating because it starts straight away with a cold start too.
At the same moment I shift in gear (forward or reverse) the alarm stops. Oil level checked and ok. What else can this be?

water in fuel filter or a bad switch

I'll check the fuel filter. But which switch do you mean?

the float switch in the fuel filter.
look to see if there is water and if there are wires coming from the filter.

seems like I read that Yamaha did something like that, alarms water in fuel only in neutral

Page 36 of your owner's manual.

After all else fails, read the instructions.

It seems to be the water in fuel filter sensor indeed. The manual says go to the yamaha dealer. But is it difficult or tricky to bleed that filter? Or can I do that myself without complications?

Hardest part is unscrewing the cup. If you can do that, no need to visit a dealer.

Page 80 indicates that a user should be able to change the fuel filter. If a user can change the filter he should be able to remove the filter cup, drain the filter cup, and reinstall the filter cup.

if you had water in that filter, then you have a lot more water in the tank

                    Plus 1 ^^.

Might want to consider a fuel / water separator on the transom if you have the room (that you can see thru and drain )
