25 hp 2 stroke manual start with rectifier

My question is will I damage anything if I choose to run without battery connected

from what I remember the manual start motor has a lighting coil to run lights.
but they did not have the regulator .
the regulator just shunted the excess voltage over 14 v to ground..

I see no harm in running your motor without a battery,
it does not put out much voltage and current even at WOT
