Gear is not working

Sry about my poor English but hope you understand

I Ihave a Yamaha 60hk -95 outboard where ist not possibe to move into forward or reverse.
If I remove the cover of the engine, the mechanism where the wire from the control is fastened is working.

The shift shaft that transfers the rotation from the to of the engine to the gearbox is loose. I can turn it around with my fingers and also move it up/down a bit.

This shift shaft, how is it conetced at the top? Can I access that part in a rather easy way and see what happened?

Unfortunately, looks like the shift shaft is broken, needs to be replaced and how can that be done in an easy way?

looks like it rusted badly.
look at the parts break down or find a service manual for your motor to be sure, but I think you will have to pull the power head to get replace it

It doesn't appear broken, but if it is, maybe have it welded?....

Thanks but welded is not an option.
If it was possible, still need to access the missing part that's still in there.

Nope, just one single piece. The second piece is still insside the engine and very hard to access.

O.K., I understand.....maybe Yamaha sells an upgraded shaft made from stainless steel, so it doesn't fail again....guess this motor was used in saltwater mostly?...

even that web site says they only make them for 1984 - 1996 Yamaha 115 - 225 horsepower outboard engines
