  • Remote control for 70tlrt

I have recently acquired a 1995 70hp 2 stroke (model 70tlrt) I am pretty familiar with 2 strokes, and have rebuilt them in the past, but less familiar with outboards. The motor looks to be in good shape, but has no controls.

So my question(s)... the motor has a 10-pin connector along with a square 4-pin connector, and it is a pull to open throttle. If I buy a 703 remote control, what do I need to look for? i.e. do I just need a pull to open with 10 pin connector, or do I need to match year and/or hp?

Also (and this is probably a silly question) do I need to have a tach or any other gauges hooked up to run it? I am not going to to go crazy with the rpm's or anything, just a test to see if it runs. is anything but a control box necessary for a simple test?

You do not even need a con*****er to start the motor, just need to make sure you have a plan to kill it once you start it.

Make sure you start out with pre mix fuel to make sure it is getting oil as it should

Double check the function of your throttle. I believe that it should be a push-to-open type. Most Yams are push-to-open. A relatively small number of smaller HP models have pull-to-open throttles.

So, I believe you will need a 703 control box, in a push-to-open configuration, with a ten pin harness installed. This should be it

What colour is the four pin connector? Is it ivory coloured? Look again and see if there is not another one nearby. If it is what I think it is it is for the trim/oil status system. A harness runs from those connectors to a tachometer and trim gauge to support those instruments.
