Mercruiser trim motor control - Boscoe? anyone?

I happened across this information today - and am trying to puzzle it out.

It appears (at least some) Mercruiser drives use a single relay to operate the trim motor

and the trim motor has a ground
as well as the familiar blue (presumably up) and green (presumably down)
to provide the +

what surprises me is that the green power is provided directly through the control switch -
no relay involved.

Any thoughts on that?

(its also interesting that the control switch has three buttons -
two for 'up' - apparently one in series with a limit switch)

looks to me that the button switches are heavy duty so a relay is not needed to carry the current.

You have a trim up and a trailer button, that trims the drive all the way up.

must be;
except not the 'trim limit' switch -
so they run the blue through a relay.

I suppose,
since there is no powerhead being moved around,
just the drive housing -
the amp draw of the trim motor may be a fraction of that of an outboard

That's a really old system there. I'm going to guess something like mid-80's and earlier. Since about then, there are two solenoids being used - one up and one down solenoid. I wonder why the change, though - was it because that old system was flawed... or is the newer system actually less expensive to produce? I dunno.
