  • Woodruff key - Yamaha 90280-04M05

    Hi guys!
does someone know exact measures of this woodruff key: Yamaha 90280-04M05 (driveshaft impeller on F115 engine)?
Is it possible to order standard keys instead of genuine yamaha ones? Any refs or links available from the forum, please?

    thanks from 22°S !

I'm confident its a standard hardware item -
    although stainless steel, and metric

the -04 leads to the suspicion that one dimension is 4mm
possibly thickness - easy to measure the keyway and confirm
there are only a few standard sizes

Thanks Fairdeal, I have one new key that I measured and can't find its size in standards :

not really sure about thickness which looks a bit less than 4mm.
      Could it be imperial measures?
I am not very good in mechanics theory, even less when dealing with imperial measures!!
I don't have any tool to measure it directly in imperial.

Just curious, are the Yamaha keys not available in your area?

They should... I could only get one in stock at Yamaha, backorder for more, delays are... elastic!
I want to be able to get some easily, and stock a few at home! Boat maintenance is a bit different here than in the US! Hard to trust the shop and their stocks, and not mentioning the prices!
You must be a bit more autonomous.

both digital calipers I have will measure metric and imperial.
            one has fractions also.
4 mm is .156 inch or 5 /32, or at least very close to that
but I do not have a key to measure

Is there an issue with reusing a key?

you could reuse it ,if you do not destroy it trying to get it out

The issue is that an onerous woodruff key is used at all.

On the F350, Yamaha departed from using a woodruff key. Went Mercury Marine style. Just a flat spot on the drive shaft turns a key. Key is easily removed and reused. It just falls out.

Then they went back to the woodruff key with later Offshore models.

Then brought back the F350 key for the XF375/XF425 models.

Does the part number offer any clue?

I am guessing so. Heavy emphasis on the guessing.

Brilliant minds think alike. I was thinking the same. Learned something nonetheless.
