  • New to me 05 hpdi rigging

Hi guys will be receiving a 05 175 hpdi this week an am trying to get some of the rigging set up before it arrives. With the motor I was told there is a 10 pin wiring harness with it. I have purchased a 6x3 flush mount control and a 703-82510-10-00 key switch assembly. Is there a simple plug and play operation for these controls ? Or at least a simple wiring diagram to hook everything up ? Any help is appreciated for a first time yamaha user !

That's perfect thank you so much ! only one more question is that from the 6X3 control box there are two brown wires instead of one brown and one black. I see the blue green and red for the trim and than have two brown wires. Any thoughts ?

Brown is for the neutral safety switch.

One brown to the switch and one brown from the switch.

The motor has finally arrived and the gauges that came with are older style teleflex analog gauges is there anything special about hooking these types of gauges to the harnesses there's is a tach speedo and trim.

Yamaha gauges are plug and play. With aftermarket gauges all bets are off. They can be wired in any number of ways.

Ya figured as much. Now I noticed that yamaha does make the digital ones and also the pro series that also have the oil warning indicators. Question is with the regular gauges will I still get some sort of audible oil or engine warning signal ?

With a Yamaha you should always get an audible warning. The warning horn will indicate either low oil quantity or over temperature. With lights you will know which that it is.

Yet another question while rigging. okay so im at the wiring stage now and have the main 10 pin connector (connected) and also have the trim and oil harness leads and than have the oil tank lead. I assume the trim and oil harness goes to the connections right by the throttle and shifter attachments. and I assumed the oil tank lead would go up around the interior oil reservoir. problem is I cannot find the connector to plug the sucker in and point in the right direction would be appreciated !

The trim/oil harness goes from the motor directly to the tachometer.

The harness from the boat mounted oil tank goes to a blue connector that is in the engine pan up front near the trim/oil ivory connector.

Okay so blue to blue for the oil tank done and done. Than there is the oil and trim harness with a male and female connection there is only one connection on the motor for the trim / oil harness. where does the other end go ? maybe im blind but I don't see it.

Good news! You are not going blind.

In 2005 for USA model motors Yamaha switched from two nylon connectors in the engine pan to one nylon connector in the engine pan. The trim/oil harness and the tachometer were also updated accordingly. However, some may argue that this was not an update insofar as tachometer functionality was reduced.

Apparently you have an early style trim/oil harness and early style tachometer with two nylon connectors. An adapter harness will be needed for it to work correctly. See the following diagram:

Hmmmm okay. The gauges are only the teleflex analog styles and I'm only needing the signals for the tach and trim switch from the harness. I'm assuming that the previous owner had it rigged with only one plug attached than. Ill do some poking and see what I can come up with
