Working (and getting stumped) on a buddies '02 70hp 2 stroke. It's on a 16' Arima with a 17" pitch prop. Motor idles great, and eventually will run very smooth on plane. WOT is a little low at 4700 so we're getting a different prop.
However, it bogs terribly bad and it awful to get on plane and most of the time won't. As in smoothly hit the throttle and it just bogs and surges and cuts out and eventually most of the time you can wait it out and it will get on plane. Sometime you just pin it WOT and just let it work through the bog/surging and it gets on step.
What's been done:
-Removed all 3 carbs and prime start. Thoroughly cleaned, blow out. Re-assembled and performed linc and sync.
-Drained 6 month old gas
-Verified timing is correct per the panel at idle and WOT
-Cleaned the grounds for the coils and every other ground we found on the motor
-new spark plugs
-new fuel filter
-new fuel pump
-Spark plugs look rich
New plan is to check compression in the motor. Then go through fuel lines one more time to look for leaks at fitting, clamps, etc. Other than that.. I'm kinda stumped at this point. Any ideas? Is it even possible that the little arima is just too heavy and that combined with the prop is just too much for the motor? It would seem like it would still power through it.
Thanks
