Acquired and installed Harness 6Y5-83653-00 to idiot lights on Yamaha pro series Tach. Lights still do not work. In the photo before installation of the new harness to the 4 prong plug there is an extra yellow wire with red stripes not sure what this is for . Power? Also there is a red wire coming in from a 703 con*****er not connected to anything is this switched power from the 703 con*****er? Lastly I plan to install a Trim Gauge. Should this be connect to the light Blue and light Green and Light Pink/Red wires from the 703 con*****er?

    Thanks Snowgo666

ya gotta buy the trim/oil warning harness anyway.
that harness will plug into the trim and tach gauges.
then its from the 703 to the tach, buy that harness and its all plug and play.
boscoe has and can post a picture of what it looks like.

See the illustration at this link.

          2014 Yamaha MRP Catalog

Then what you need to do is to check your motor for the number of trim/oil connectors that are in the front of the engine pan. Hopefully, there is just one. Then it should all be plug and play.

The reason that I say that it should be one connector is because Yamaha changed the configuration for USA models from two connectors to one connector in the circa 2005 time frame. If you have two connectors then get back to us. There are some adapter harnesses available to make a one connector gauge work with a two connector motor.

The single yellow wire with a red tracer connects to the yellow wire in the small fused harness that comes from the 703 control box. That wire provides 12 volt positive power. The engine provides a ground to the gauge via the trim/oil harness to make the light illuminate. If you do not have a place to plug the yellow wire with red tracer into then you can get a small wire harness from Yam that lets you do this.

          Capiche?

I have the trim / oil wire harness 6y5-83653-00 and have run it from console tach to motor. Exactly where does it connect on the motor. I see a empty off white 4 pin connector behind the main wiring harness that runs from motor to the 703 con*****er. This connector is on the left side of the motor if you are standing on the stern and looking back over the stern.

            Thanks Snowgo666

The connector will be up in the front of the engine pan. Might be buried under some stuff. It is an ivory coloured four pin connector. Wire colours will probably be pink, pink with white tracer and pink with black tracer (2).

Yup that is the one I'm plugged into currently on the motor and connected to the tach. No lights yet.

Do you have the yellow wire with the red band plugged into a yellow wire for electrical power?

The lights normally only illuminate if and when there is a problem.

In some Yams the lights will illuminate for a second or two just after the motor is started.

I've got it figured out. Multimeter very helpful. Now on to the trim gauge.

Thanks for all your help guys
