oil pump settings on 1994 200 txrs

I have set the pump up as per book, back off idle adjustment screw,adjust pump to no play,readjust idle screw. The adjustment seem to bottom out when turning the joint at end of shaft,so I then remembered Rodbolt saying some time back that he has had to cut off about 4 threads in order to get the right adjustment. I am wondering if a little gap in play,say a 1/2 mm wold be acceptable to allow more oil or just go ahead and bottom the adjustment out, make it tight against the pump stop? Just wanting to hear some thoughts on this as I do not want to harm this old girl in any way! Thanks

dunno what book your reading but I suspect it.
with the bottom shutter fully closed you should have .005 to .020" clearance between the arm and the stopper.

never saw a mention about play.
