  • Problem with ohm values of trim sensor

    Hallo fellow Yamaha owners.

I have a 2000 40 Hp 2- stroke. The trim sensor was totaly sieced up, and I could not get it to work with the spring return.
Found the spare part number, ordered it.

The old one had 4 wires, black, gray, pink and orange.
The new one had only 3 wires, gray, black and pink.

The problem is the Faria trim meter, it show to low values, I dont get a reading of full up, and goes to far into down.

I have measured the ohm of the new sensor and the readings are 72 ohm to 225 ohm.
Can somebody help me with the year of the sensor, then I can change the Faria instrument.

    Thx.

Need the full ID of the motor.

There are four wire senders, three wire senders and two wire senders.

My first guess would be that if you removed a four wire sender that you might need to replace it with a four wire sender. What do you think?

Did you resolve this? I have a Faria that is stuck reading trim all up on my 2001 Saltwater 150 2-stroke. Similar readings.

Two motors having similar symptoms can have completely different problems. Whatever caused the OP's sender issues might have nothing to do with your trim problem.

Start a completely new post. Provide your complete model identity and a description of the problem as you see it.

Senders can fail internally, senders can fail mechanically, a device that activates the sender can fail, wiring can fail, etc. etc. ad nauseam.

More than likely a plastic piece that is used to activate your sender is broken. Very common.
