  • Greasing a 2014 115 jet drive

I just bought a 115 jet drive and was given a small grease gun to grease the zerk on the jet. Rather than fit down over the zerk like a normal gun , it has a plastic tip you press down on the ball in the zerk and then press the plunger to grease. The plastic tip lasted 2 greasings before it fell out. Isn't that zerk a regular grease fitting which will accept a regular grease gun? I live remote and can't afford to mess up the fitting. Any help would be appreciated.

With your memory isn't it dangerous for you to be operating an outboard motor?

I gave you your answer before. I provided you with reference materials from the manufacturer of the jet pump. You come back and repeat the same question.

I thought you were like the elderly lady that I see on my daily walks with my dog. She always asks me where I live.

Different day. Same question. Same answer.

I am starting to feel like Rodbolt.

Sorry, new to this and didn't find the reply. Memory good - computer skills for this-not so good. Dealer is in Anchorage and hard to talk to as I live in the Bush. Thought I would try this site as people seem to be good help.

Just a regular auto parts store grease gun will work just fine.

You might want to purchase a copy of service manual LIT-186196-00-03. Excerpt from this manual is provided below.

I got the info and thank you for your help. Not sure what I did the first time you sent it to me. I have the book and had been greasing the jet with a regular grease gun with no problems. Then talking to a guy who has run Yamaha jets told me the reason the grease gun I got from the Dealer, fitted with the plastic tip, was for that particular grease zerk. Didn't make sense to me but I am 200 miles from town and 35 miles from a road with my boat as transportation. I didn't want to have a problem!
Anyway, thank you for your help again - I appreciate it.
