  • 2001 250 OX66 - Just quits

May be hard to trouble shoot without much hard data, just looking for where I should start.

Motor is just dies, no sputtering or rough running, just goes from perfect to off like the key is turned off. Started happening at idle only, every other time out, very infrequent, sometimes it takes a couple minutes to restart Friday after sitting for a half hour, it would not start, seemed like it had no spark or no fuel, finally it started after 15 minutes and ran great home. Today after sitting for a while on the beach it died at idle a couple times and then shut off at about 4k rpm, fired right back up and made it home.

It happens on both tanks so I have ruled out somthing related to the tank. I took apart the VST tank yesterday and the float moved freely and the valve didnt seem to stick.

Spring Tune up included the following.
    Racor Filter
    Motor Filter
    VST Filter
    Cleaned O2
    All 3 LP pumps
    Replaced check valve
    Plugs
    Oil Filters (tank and motor)

Do fuel pumps have intermittent issues or do they just stop working?

    Thanks

    Me thinks electrical
Check earths, yellow wire to main relay etc. maybe a voltage drop causing relay to shut off. then start test things on the engine. I haven't worked on any ox66's so cant really elaborate.

Yeah, when attempting to re-start it will just crank like it has no power or it will start, it never attempts to start and turn over a couple times like I would expect if it had some fuel in system.

It also seems to happens after everything is warmed up, always fires right up cold.

Rodbolt, I noticed your in KDH, you ever make it up to VB for some mobile work?

monitoring spark and fuel pressure should tell which is the problem if they even are a problem when it will not start.

Could be it is too rich from vapors dumping into intake keeping it from firing back up properly after heating up, but would not cause it to stall/die while running.
