Stuck in gear

2006 Yamaha F50tlr stuck in gear after impeller change. I can turn the shift lever but stays in same gear. Not sure what it is that I am missing. Any ideas?

Soinds like the shift rod did not seat properly. Drop the LU, set the shifter to neutral. Make sure the LU is in neutral by turning the shift shaft with a pair of pliers. There will be three distinct detents for F N and R. Check for N by spinning the prop by hand. Put a dab of grease on the shift shaft. Make sure the shift shaft seats properly when you put the LU back on.
