My 2004 F60 Carburated engine was running fine,


next day on start up it made a fairly loud ticking noise and

ran rough.

Crankcase oil smelled like gas, very black and thin.

Changed oil and ticking stopped however it continued to run rough.

I checked the stream and it ran cold after 10 mins on the muff's.

Question, could a stuck open T-stat cause these symptoms ?

Rebuild the fuel pump or change it out,if the fuel pump runs low on fuel it will make a ticking noise.

tell tail does not get hot because it does not run thru much of the motor before exiting.
it is just an indicator that the water pump is pumping.

stat stuck open making motor run cold can cause fuel to not be burned completely getting fuel in oil also

I would change the plugs, maybe they got fouled when oil got thinned out and over full
