Warning peep at idle.

(Yamaha 60hp 4 stroke. 1300 hrs)
Hi. I keep getting this warning signal after around 30 secs at normal idling speed, in or out of gear. I have to stop the motor to stop the peep, engaging either gear won't stop it lobe it's started.
Battery charging remains the same.
Fuel lines/filters all clean.
Everything else normal.
I can't djinns anything to cover this in the workshop manual, and I'm at a loss to know what it is. I'd be very grateful for any info. Thanks a lot
(I'm in a remote place, with no competent mechanic to hand.)

Is the peep a steady tone?

Once the motor is restarted is it gone for good or does it reappear shortly?

Do you know what the warning horn sounds like? Is the peep coming from the horn?

Has the control box been changed recently?

Competent mechanics are hard to find throughout the world.

how many ways can we set off the audible.
we can short the pink wire in the 10 pin main harness or in the control box on a 703 side mount.
we can set the oil pressure switch.
we can actually have an overheat.
I have seen about everyway you can overtemp that 4 cyl.
from worn out water pumps to bad Tstats to stuck pressure control valve to the pencil zinc in the ex cover breaks off and plugs up the water discharge.
that zinc,if it plugs off the discharge you will notice a large increase in water pressure on the tell tale.
low battery voltage can do it as can a water detect if equipped.

Surely, from my symptoms, some of these can be eliminated?
~No increase in telltale water pressure.
~Battery just fully recharged.. it doesn't lag when sounding.
~If it was oil pressure by would it go after a restart?
~wouldn't low water pressure or hi motor exhibit symptoms at non idle speed?

does this motor have any led lights or gauges to indicate a problem if one occurs?

do you know when the water pump and thermostat were serviced last?

How does the oil level and condition look?
and when was it changed last?

99yam40. I've never seen any warning lights. I'll check the book.
Water pump and thermostat not serviced!
Oils, filter just changed. Old oil pretty clean, as usual. Never need to top it up over the 100 hrs.

yes it would be a very good idea to service the pump and stat since you never have

Is this a tiller handle or remote control setup?
Do you have gages?

What is the model number and year of the engine,?

1300 hours?.... What year motor is this? Water pump, thermostat and pressure control valve should be at least inspected once a year and replaced every 2 or 3 years, more or less.

Plus 1 on the water pump, it's way overdue.

It's very possible your missing a vane (or part of one) with the hours, age, etc. If so, start digging for any missing pieces of rubber..

While ordering parts, a thermostat and PCV would be a very good investment..

Hi all, and thanks very much for all your advics. I apologise for not replying earlier but i live very remotely, with no Internet.
The thermostat was bust. Much as I would've liked to get a replacement here I have to use a private courier which costs more than the item, and takes ten days plus to arrive.
I managed to get one, and an impellor locally, and the motor is running fine again.
Yes, I'm a ****, I admit it! 😊
