95 yamaha ptt fault

Hi new to this forum. Hope I'm putting this in the right place! I bought a 95 40hp about 2 months ago. When I collected the engine the ptt was working fine since then it has been sat on a stand in my garage. Tonight we rigged it onto my searider connected the battery, pressed the trim button it sounded like it was going to move then nothing. My mate that is fitting it then put power directly to the motor and still nothing. is this likely to be a problem with the motor or possibly the relay?
