1998 150 salt water series outboard originally set up with electronic digital gauges. Replaced tach/trim one with two analog gauges. Purchased trim gauge off ebay by visually inspecting wire number, colors and plug. I found what I thought would plug right in, but found the plug containing black, orange, grey and pink was just different enough to not connect. Being, well, "the way I am" I snipped the plug off the old guage and spiced it to the one that I bought. To make a long story short, the guage only works with the grey wire not connected. I guess I can leave it like this but I would really like to know what that grey wire is for. Inside the motor it goes up into the main harness toward the rear of the engine, not the trim sender as the other three do. I'm thinking it might be a "motor out of water alarm" when key is turned on.
