yamaha 90HP 2 stroke high voltage

I have a 2005, 90HP 2 stroke that after I run for about 5 minutes, the voltage climbs to 16. If I stop and re-start the engine, the same thing happens. It starts around 13, but climbs to 16.
What is wrong?
The battery is only 2 years old. This is the first weekend. I just hooked up the battery on Friday.

Hi,

I have a similar issue with my 90HP 2 Stroke 2001. The voltage gauge is blinking at 16.2V. The value is back to normal and stop bilking only at idle.
Did you get any feedbacks? Is it easy to fix?

Check your cables - make sure you do not have corrosion and all of your connections are good. Then have your battery checked out. If these items check out it sounds like your voltage regulator is starting to go south.

Be careful - if your Voltage regulator fries it can burn your CDI that is located on top of the regulator. Ask me how I know!

By chance if you are using wing nuts on your cranking battery STOP! They loosen and a bad connection will burn up your regulator. Once again, ask me how I know!!

For sure my cables and batteries are fine and good.
However a few months ago, I get a bad connection on the cranking battery… could be the root cause of the issue that I get now on my regulator.
Thanks a lot for your warning about the CDI; I will replace the regulator before other side effects!
