2008 225 Yamaha Lower Unit

How does the shift shaft come up out of the unit? Looks like the seal carrier is rubber??

Too bad the type of 225 Yamaha is not specified. I am assuming this is a two stroke since it is not an F225 four stroke.

You have to remove the cover plate. Technically called the oil seal housing. Three screws hold it in place. It is the part with a hole in the middle through which the shift shaft comes out of the lower unit. A rubber seal is in the middle of the plate.

Make note of the orientation of the shift shaft so it is reinstalled correctly.
