  • Adding a key switch when there was none before

I am in the process of wiring a start switch for a yamaha 9.9 on my pontoon boat. Currently I have to reach over the back and press the button on the side to start the motor and either choke it out or pull the kill key to shut it off. so I want to put a start and stop on my dash. The issue is the kill circut, there is a black and a white wire that come from the ignition module to the kill switch. I understand that this shorts out the ignition when the kill switch key is pulled. Im ok with the momemtary side of a three position key switch that activates the starter, my question is how do I tie in the iginition kill so when I turn the key off it shuts off the motor. On the keyed switch only 1 lead is supposed to go from there to the ignition system. Any help would be appreciated. If it cant be done Ill just run the leads from the kill on the motor to a on/off on the dash and then install a momentary pushbutton for the starter, but I would really like the key switch.

You could use the Yamaha ign switch but you would not be able to choke engine from ign switch unless your motor has an elect choke solenoid. If you use the Yamaha ign switch the wire colors will match, white ign. wire and brown starter relay wires.
