  • Oil Pump Conversion?

    Hello All!
I am in the process of getting my buddies 1985 175 ETLK running on a dependable basis. It does the usual oil leakage through the pump, but all else appears ok. Can I just add the check valves from the newer model? I have read of too many problems/incompatibility with the new pump "kit". Also, what parts does he need to add a trim gauge. Mixing oil & fuel in a 40gal. tank does not seem like a good idea to me or him.
There is NO such thing as a 4-stroke that runs like a 2-stroke, and yes-infomercials do lie!

I did the oil pump conversion and have no problems with it. It's been over 2 years ago when done. You want to use all new oil lines and put the check valves between the clear and dark hose connections. It was actually easy to convert. I wouldn't do a "double" check valve set up.

BTW, run the 50:1 premix to verify that the oil is being used, at least for a tank or 2.

    Good luck!
