1989 Yamaha F9.9SF Oil Seal Replacement

I take it that the carrier shaft bushing is pressed into the carrier and will not slide up over the seal surface on the shaft so the shaft has to come out 1st.

took me a little bit to get that straight in my head

Op might as well replace all of the seals since you will have to take it all apart

I would be going the hack way on that one and picking those seals out of there without any more disassembly.

From the look of the corrosion and the age of the engine, trying to take that LU apart could be a nightmare...

A good set of picks, patience and you have a good chance of getting them out.

If you decide to try this option get a GOOD set of picks...like shown in below video.

that is why had a local machine shop make an adapter.
my slide hammer thread on one end and the propshaft thread on the other. set me back 45 bucks. well worth it.
I remove the propshaft and carrier.
to remove the pinion nut clamp the shaft in a soft jawed vise.

Thanks rodbolt17 for your advice and expertise. I didn't know you are a yamaha master tech. I will be removing the driveshaft.
