I hated working on those Vw motors and the corvair motors

2 stroke lawn equipment is still OK here, for now, but the whispers are there for bans, that motor has been used for decades, and virtually unchanged, parts are available anywhere, including the dump, they are pretty powerful, use 25:1 mix, but will run on half that, or double, almost any oil will do, they just keep on going without maintenance or care.

I had some old (70s)Craftsman chains saws that had 16 to 1 ratio stickers on them.
still have one, but I run 40 to 1 in it like most everything else
I am thinking the oils are a lot better than they were back then

I think I bought the last Lawn Boy 2 stroke model available in 2000. 6.5hp self propelled. Put the Toro to shame. Loud as hell though.

My Old 2000 Lawn Boy is still running great usually starts first pull, smokes for a minute then putters around wherever I want to go!

does it have the exhaust going down under the deck like the old ones?

The last Lawn Boy I saw was my neighbors and that was in the late 70's, the green machine.

Either on or off, no throttle position for say half throttle, etc...

I had one given to me years ago.
Do not remember if it had a throttle to adjust or not,
some of the newer 4 strokes did not have adjustment on the throttle either from what I remember seeing.

found a used coil for the lawnboy in a junk pile at local small motor repair shop.
it ran well until the ex and/or kids put straight gas in it mowing a neighbors yard for her..
they did that to some weed eaters also.

hard to get some people to understand motors and their needs sometime.

but At 65 years young ,I still have never bought a gas motorized yard cutting tool,
just got ones that were given to me running again

Exhaust routed down into a catalytic converter then back up to a large muffler on side of motor.
