On twin powered boats the port key switch will turn on its tachometer only but not the speed and fuel gauges. The starboard key switch will turn on its tachometer plus the speed and the fuel gauges.
So, if a guy wants to ***** using just the port motor he will not get speed information and the fuel meter won't measure the fuel flow to that motor.
I seem to recall that Yamaha offered a gizmo or modification so that either key switch will power the fuel flow gauge with either key turned on. Does this ring a bell to you? I can't find what I believe to be in existence but maybe it is my imagination playing tricks on me.
