Just finished rebuilding the carbs on my 2004 90hp when I noticed that one part of the carb fuel line hose had a crack. Since it is 10 yrs old, I decided to replace the entire unit (1/4" ID, black hose, with three sections running to the carbs). The Yamaha dealer only has the individual pieces at $25-$30 (for 1-1/2' of hose). They said bulk is not available in that hose. The marine stores sell hose that is 1/4" ID but much thicker OD so my clamps won't fit. The auto parts store has the same size clear hose ID and OD, made for lawnmower and small engine fuel lines. My question is - can I use this clear lawnmower fuel hose for my carb fuel lines? Thanks for your help!

the lines they sell for your motor are preformed and will not kink. just buy them, this is a boat after all and you know what they say about boats.
You can look for the longest straight piece of hose yamaha sells for your motor and cut it up to see how that works, but the pre formed is better
With the clear lines I have seen falling apart on weed eaters and chain saws I would not put that stuff on your outboard

Look on here for parts it will save you some money. Boats.net is great to deal with.
On the short tightly bent hoses the preformed one are the best choice.
OEM hose will last a lot longer than generic hose, safer too. A gas fire on a boat is no fun.
That clear hose only lasts a year or 2 on a chainsaw, lawnmower etc., no way i will use it on them much less a boat doing 50+ miles from help.

If the clear hose is rated for fuel, and the bend radii is such that it won't kink the hose, then I don't see a problem using it.
The aircraft boys use clear fuel lines for some airplanes. If it is good enough for an airplane it is good enough for an outboard motor IMO.
If you don't know what the plastic stuff is that the auto parts store is selling, here is a link to aircraft rated clear plastic fuel hose.

Agreed on going OEM.
However, some lawn mower fuel lines (5+ HP, 4 strokes)(NOT the clear or yellow lines for the weedeaters, ) but the black, rubber, reinforced lines generally have smaller OD. These lines often run right up against the hot block of these air cooled engines(they hold up very well). The black doesn't harden up for literally years, un-like the yellow, MUCH SMALLER weedeater stuff as the ethonol affects the yellow MUCH faster. (I actually purchased 3 full rolls of different sized weed eater lines good for up to 15% ethonol and lasts a bit longer).
Honda mower engines have a smaller, weird size that generally fits only thier engines and may work for your application.Scott

Just make sure that the bend radii does not kink the hose.

EPA requirements have caused auto and boat fuel hoses to go through the roof. So far, the EPA has not seen fit to try and tell the aircraft boys what to do, as that is the job of the FAA.
This is one of the very few times that I have ever seen aircraft parts prices be lower than auto/boat parts prices.
