2005 90TLR - Which Harness(es)?

Hi, all. I bought a 2005 90TLR that came with a 703 side mount control and a digital tachometer. The 703 is no good for my center console, so I picked up a 704 throttle and a single key switch on Craigslist. Here's what I have. Which harness(es) do I need to order to put everything together? I've looked at a few rigging diagrams and am not confident in my ability to get it right from that.

What help do you need? If you have looked at the diagrams and can't figure out what to do, what can we say that will help?

One thing I think might be an issue is that tachometer. It appears to be for a pre 2005 Yam US motor.

Check the motor that you have. Does it have one or two ivory coloured nylon connectors lying loose in the engine pan. The connector(s) will look just like those on the tachometer.

Thank you both for answering. I'm not as stupid as I can make myself sound sometimes. Almost, but not quite. What I should have said was that I can't figure it out from looking at a variety of diagrams I find online, none of which are for this model but I imagined it'd be the same. So I figured I'd turn to the experts.

The 10-pin harness is the obvious component, thank you for giving me the model numbers so I can order the right length.

Regarding model years, the engine was made in '04 but has a TLRD designation, so I use 2005 as the model year. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

There is one square ivory connector available under the cowling.

The tach I have is original to the engine and came with it.

The key switch I have is a newer one without a separate choke switch (and has an 8 pin plug). That might be incompatible?

The answer I was hoping for in the original post was: "You need XYZ123 from engine to key switch, YZX456 from engine to tachometer, and ZXY789 in there to connect the throttle." All in the appropriate lengths, of course.

Here is a diagram that shows a 90TLRD connected to a 704 control box.

You say that your motor has just one single four pin nylon connector for the trim/oil system. Your tachometer has two four pin connectors. It is presumed that you have a trim/oil harness with two four pin connectors on each end and that you have an adaptor harness so that it mates with the dual four pin connectors on the tachometer. Correct?

Thank you, Boscoe. That is similar to one of the diagrams I'd seen, and the lack of part numbers is what brought me here.

You can assume I have no harnesses or wiring whatsoever beyond that in the 703, which is too short for the boat anyway. I am ordering everything here, once I've got my shopping list.

I know that Yam rigging can be confusing. Too much stuff and it changes from time to time.

Ok, here is the layout illustration with part numbers. You will need to add a -00 to them. boats.net has already provided you with the part numbers for the different lengths of the ten pin harness.

You figure out which length you need and then order the appropriate part number.

The control box p/n is that for the standard 704 box.

Thank you very much. I was imagining you were upset for my coming in empty handed and asking for the part numbers, that's why the apology. Just a mis-read on my part. Was going to try to figure it out now with the catalog and found your addition of part numbers to the sketch. Image saved. Very much appreciated.

You'll be fine with the 704. Our center console skiff with 90 TLRD came with one.

I also swapped the fuel gauge with a trim gauge and found a "spare" wire in the harness as noted in boscoe99's diagram to connect the trim sensor. The gauge position is adjusted by a set screw on the sensor at the engine bracket.

After I had the fuel gauge out, I discovered it's the exact same gauge as fuel with a different scale. While not acceptable for the purist, I suggest wiring the fuel gauge and adjusting level to 1/2 tank before using a weekend and a box of bandages.

One more item - by far the the number one reason for tachometer problems is bad connections, especially ground. So, if things get wonky after your done, get a cold six, check every connection including fuses, and use plenty of WD40 oil, especially on the fuse connections.
