  • Throttle cable too short

Just replaced gear and throttle cables on 2000 c60hp with 703 controls. Gear connects fine. However, my throttle connection at the motor is about 0.75 inches too short for the connector to make it to the armature. These are the 3300 universal cables. Tried adjusting the threaded ends to the min amount of threaded insert, still short that 0.75. Am I missing something?
    Thanks!

Just off the top of my head, I'd re-check at the control box and make sure its seated correctly and fully.

    Good luck

Do you have the correct plastic threaded fitting for your motor? There are short versions, long versions and mid length versions.

        Throttle cable too short

I have the correctly specified cable ends. Long ones on the motor-end that thread on and you cannot see where the threaded rod would come out. Then on the control-box-end the short ones where you can see the threaded rod come out if you were to thread it clear thru.

As the boat is at a warehouse and not at my house I cannot be sure the motor linkages are push or pull on it. That might be my problem and I plan to check tomorrow.

my guess, assuming it worked BEFORE disassembly.
you either missed a cable anchor point or you swapped the shift and throttle coupler at the engine end.
control box end couplers are identical.
some of the inline 3 and 2 cylinder stuff uses a longer throttle connector than the shift connector.

This is a new install. Replacing a 1973 Johnson 65hp. I replaced the old omc binnacle with the yamaha 703, and then the new control cables.

then you either missed the cable anchor point or your using the wrong connector on the throttle at the motor.
