  • What would you call it?

No right or wrong, just different.

    Solid State Relay
    Electronic Relay
    Semi-conductor Relay
    Other (which is?)

which it are you talking about?

how about a Solid State electronic relay with semi conductors in it

    that should cover it all

I am talking about the F425 component that tells the trim tilt motor to turn one way or the other way. It is no longer electromechanical.

Do have some data you can share? Don’t be stingy....

When you look at those words they look tied, maybe need a new word. Why do we still use the word relay, what does it relay? What happened to switch; a relay used to be an electric switch. Switch at least suggests there is more than one thing it can do. Tilt and trim needs two relays normally.

a relay is an electro mechanical device.
thanks to solid state semi conductor technology we can eliminate the mechanical part and make it 4 times more expensive 3 times harder to test and twice as sucseptible to failure.
but it is kinda like the difference from a differential, a center section or a pumpkin or a chunk. depends on where your at.

                probably solid state relay.
things like that have been around a long time.
but don't they usually have a small amount of bleed thru
                never turn off completely

I always understood that a relay was a device that used a small amount of energy from one thing to send or interrupt a larger current carrying flow to another device

I miss the days when bralessness ran rampant.

Exactly, saving on necessitating thick wires going to and from an equally required robust switch.
