  • 2008 F60 water pump not pumping

    Hello All,
I'm stuck on a water pumping issue. I purchased a 2008 F60 freshwater used engine. The prop seals were leaking oil so I replaced them with success. While the lower unit was down I changed the impeller and the water pumped just fine on the ear muffs out the telltale so I took the boat out and it stopped pumping and overheated within minutes. The pump worked fine initially.
I did apply some Super Lube grease in the impeller housing when first changed -- did the impeller fins get distorted or stay too straight because there was Teflon grease applied?
The telltale does not pump anymore and pulses hot air with the muffs. However, the telltale works fine when hooked to engine hose connection. Could I have tightened the prop too tight? I removed the thermostat just to be sure there was no clogs -- everything seemed fine yet I kept the thermostat out for now. Looking for guidance, ideas please assist.

    Thanks!

      Plus 1 ^^^.

Some of those hoses are very small and if that grease is somewhat thick, could easily clog an orifice.

Should you find (even if you don't) spraying some "Brake Cleaner" thru water lines won't hurt anything and should help blow out IF there's any grease stuck in there..

Make sure the impeller vanes are facing the correct way and also when assembling the cup, instead of grease, use soapy water(spray bottle), Windex, anything slippery.

With the over heat, just make sure the housing didn't distort / melt (probably didn't while in the water) but inspect everything closely..

        ^^^^

the grease didn't cause a problem, propeller nut torque has no impact,

the thermostat can't stop it from peeing (put that back in)

maybe you shut off the water too soon while you were "testing" on the muffs
        and melted the pump housing

Disassembled the pump and the housing was distorted slightly. Thanks to all!
