  • Keyboard question for everyone

Who was self taught to type and who has had some formal training?

I just found out about a protocol that I have not been following. Did not even know of it. Never heard of it in 69 years.

I found some practice drills on the internet about ten years ago. What protocol?

I just read that after a period, at the end of a sentence, there are supposed to be two spaces before the start of the next sentence. I never knew that. I have always only used on space. I asked the wife about it, as she had taken typing in high school, and she said she was taught to use two spaces. I was never taught anything and just presumed to use one space.

I read an article where people were fighting about this. One space versus two spaces. Sounded like a Yamaha versus Evinrude fight. We humans are nuts.

I got kicked out of typing class in high school on purpose...now I sorta wish I had not done that.

        One space.

I took a typing class in High School many decades ago. I never heard of the two space between sentences...

I'm a two finger (pointers) type writer (while peeking at the board) but am pretty quick for just two fingers.

On forums such as this, I'll start a new paragraph just to make reading easier and no run on sentences...

Used an old fashioned type writer for arrest reports way back before computers. Then was forced to using a computer & key board once the cop shop modernized.

I still type up (and print) invoices for my customers so they know what's been done to a machine. And because my handwriting sucks.

never took typing class or used a type writer.
PCs got me into using a keyboard.
I had to write electrical, operating ,Hot work, and clearing, along with other safety procedures for my job so I had to get use to it.
PC saved my ass. correcting me and allowing me to cut, copy, and paste.

But I still cannot type with out looking at keyboard

As Sargent Schultz would say I know nothing of protocols

Wife taught me a long time ago in college to use two spaces. I had to have others type my papers for classes. The Macintosh had just been introduced as I was finishing up. Very cool. So user friendly. First laser printers too. I never took typing in high school. Dumb move...I guess we will not have to type much of anything shortly.

Just use voice recognition software and the problem is solved! I have used both one or two spaces after a sentence. Probably sometimes in the same paragraph too.

Typing lessons at school was strictly girly stuff. If only we knew what was to come with computing.

Didnt know two spaces between sentences, but I guess can make reading big long word sentences easier.

Now what happened to the rule of using one or two spaces at the start of paragraphs??

I forgot about the rule that new paragraphs are supposed to be indented. I never use it. Did not think about it and now that I do, too much work.
