Yamaha 70 hp adjustment precision blend Oil

1987 Yamaha 70 hp with precision blend and the metal rod that goes from carburetor/shift linkage to Oiler has a plastic end on the Oiler end that is adjustable. It is part number 6h1-41237-00-00 and I noticed this weekend it is split and has possibly slipped a thread or two in adjustment. I have a new one ordered and wonder if there is a proper way to adjust it since it is threaded with a nut on one end for locking in the adjustment.
