Using Clear coat over Yamaha 4D and 8D Factory Engine paint

Anybody spray the clear over the decals?? Mine are the original decals.

I completely stripped my engine; bought Yamaha 4D paint, then went to Walmart and bought Rustoleum Clear Gloss. It came out awesome ..... but in a few months, it seems as if the sun wrinkled the decals under the Clear. I need to ask my friend who's been painting for 35 some add years if I failed to prepare the 4D paint for decal application the clear coat application; or if it was the rustoleum interaction with the decals. As soon as I see him, I will ask his opinion and update!

I taped off the decals and painted. Came out good.

I would imagine a correct application of the right clear coat would delay the inevitable label fade. The sun and salt are ruthless!
