  • Yamaha f 150 timing???

I have a 2006 f 150'that won't start and back fires. Stator was bad and that was replaced. Mechanical timing was checked with mark under flywheeel and the two on the cam shafts. It was also verified with Tdc and a screwdriver . No codes on laptop, compression good, new plugs.,the motor is firing at the wrong time, to the point that it snapped the starter bendix shaft. It just back fires??? Any help appreciated.

Pull the flywheel and make sure you dont have a sheared key,

that engine uses two pulser coils and a reluctor tab for both ign timing and fuel injection basic control.
once running the flywheel may be tossed in the creek and the fuel and ign system wont care.
as long as the battery remains charged .
      this is a TCI ign.

the ign coils fire in pairs.
      1&4 the 2&3.

if its out of phase either the coil high tension leads are incorrectly installed or the coil primary leads are switched.

quick way to check the flywheel key, not that it really matters for ign.
manually rotate the engine to align the mark on the reluctor plate with the block mark.
look over and see where the flywheel timing pointer is pointing on the flywheel ring.
should be very close to TDC.

the stator on the F150, other than battery charging, has nothing to do with ign nor fuel control or production.

typically intake backfires are caused by a lean condition in the intake manifold.

        F150

Thanks, will check both of those. It is backfiring thru the prop, checked the trigger, minor corrosion on two contact points, sanded and reinstalled. Will double check plug firing order again shortly.
