    I believe that.
Don't know why those spiral "Easy outs" are even sold -

I cringe every time I see some "newb" advised to use them-
there's better than even odds its going to break off and really f things up

Easy Out. What a misnomer. Nothing easy about them. They only make the situation worse IMO.

Easy outs nothing but a disaster waiting to happen if you don't know how and when you can use them. I don't know many I have had to remove...very difficult to do. Have to use solid carbide drill bits and they will barely cut them.

The best ones I have used are made in Germany, but they are still easy to break off

The Allen key method works pretty good as the key tends to twist instead of breaking off..

Best option is drill it out and chase the threads or a Rod bolt says tap it with left hand tap and put a bolt in it. Not many people have access to left hand taps though.

or the matching high tensile bolts

out of curiosity I took a look earlier at McMaster:

          almost $20 for a single 1/4"-20 left hand Grade 8 bolt ?

Get a left hand die to match your tap and make your own bolt from another bolt with the right hand threads cut off...

What is up with McMaster Carr anyway? I used to order stuff from them years ago, great selection of just about anything...Then I tried to get some stuff from them a few years back and they wouldn't ship to Canada anymore unless you have a Comercial account...
I asked if I could set one up then and they said no we are not setting up anymore commercial accounts in Canada. If you already have one then they would honour that...but no new ones.

Lady told me something to do with Homeland Security??

Nothing in Canada that comes close to McMaster...I don't get it.

Hahaha not for me..camera shy. You would probably have to have Close Captions on to understand half of what I said anyway....I will stick to typing.

Canucks are not to be trusted. You speak funny.

Meanwhile, our border to the south is as solid as a sieve.

I like how the rest of the world insists that we take everyone in. Last I heard some Somali's in Minnesota were heading to Canada. Canada oh hell no you don't.

They come here and then try to tell us how we should run our country and that it needs to be more like the shit hole country they came from.

I have exactly the same problem with the same engine, the screw is stripped thanks to someone else trying to undo it. Im going to go down the method of buying a good quality screw/bolt extractor and see how I get on. drill it first then insert and screw back .

If you break off the easy out then you are in for a world of hurt then...oh boy.

Last week, I had an aluminum chair with a busted 1/4 20 SS bolt froze inside the welded aluminum nut.

Must have been soft SS as I was able to drill into it. Drilled a small hole (reverse drill bit) started to use a small Easy Out, then decided, drill it out as large as possible, less likely to break the easy out and more grip. Smacked the Easy Out into the remains, spun right out, no problem...

You just have to know / feel when to STOP if it's not budging... Force it, you break it...

grab that easy out, your mokanick needs shoes.
best thing to do with an easy out is the same as with a tube of silly cone seal.
head for the bow and throw it as hard as you can.
a torx bit works way better than an allen or an easy out.
whine about 20 bucks when working on a 2600 dollar unit???????????
