      What is that casting mark supposed to tell us? Little man gets smushed by turning left? Is that a little man???

            I appreciate all the attention this thread is getting however I still haven't had light shed on the issue I'm having.

            The screw is seized and I'm asking for methods for removing or freeing up the manual valve screw.

            I'm sure I'm not the only one who has come across this issue and I'm hoping to pay it forward and help anyone else in thr future who had the same concern.

              I think so but with anything Yamaha I am never certain. If the symbol on the motor in question says to turn counterclockwise to loosen that is the direction it has to go to come out.

                Get a bit that completely fits the screw slot. Apply a good bit of pressure and hold it for a while to see what happens. Maybe heat the structure surrounding the screw with a hot air gun to try and expand it. Maybe apply some dry ice to the screw to help shrink it a bit. If the hydraulic pump motor was last run in one direction, run it a bit in the opposite direction. There might be some residual internal hydraulic pressure working against you.

                Let's wait and see what rodnut sez.

                    Walleye are you saying that the whole valve Assy may possibly have left hand threads? Not the screw in the valve assy that you turn counter clockwise to lower the engine?

                    To make myself clear, after you remove the retaining clip you would turn the whole thing clockwise (left hand threads) to remove it from the T/T unit body?

                    Maybe we got our wires crossed up here, so to speak...

                      this is it?



                      I suppose the inner o-ring retains the hydraulic fluid when the valve is "open"

                      and the outer o-ring is intended to keep water out of the threads

                      but if it fails to do so...


                      Rodbolt is saying inside this thing is a ball and rods? I'm seeing it listed to be a $150 part...

                        Never mind what I said above, thought it was a two piece assy...

                        The picture Fairdeal posted has right hand thread..that would only make sense.

                          have I ever seen stuck valves???
                          dude this marks my 27th consecutive yr of dealing with outboards in the salt pond.
                          nope I have never seen a corroded part.
                          can I get violent with them? yep.
                          not the first one I have drilled and tapped for a left hand thread and used a bolt to back it out.

                            I have used a left handed drill bit, at very low speed - when it started to bite, the stuck threads backed out -

                            but actually tapping for a left handed bolt - brilliant.

                                [Sometime's] you can drill it out close to where the threads are left and hammer in a allen wrench, works better than a ezyout.
