F100 Rectifier

I pop my cowling and saw an extra green/white wire from my rectifier/regulator with its end plugged.

can anyone assist me in knowing what this extra wire is for.

Not sure why it is there it doesn't connect to anything.

If your not using a tach it may be the connection for it or it could be a connection to connect a tach at the motor during tune up. Some of the Yamaha outboards have extra wires that aren't used. Possibly because the wiring harnesses are used on other models that have different connections.
