Hi All,
I have recently replaced the main shaft and upper housing on my 2010 Yamaha 8 hp 2-stroke short shaft. The engine had a water pump failure and the shaft and housing failed. Whilst we had the engine apart I cleaned all the galleries and replaced the thermostat.
It ran well in the 40 gallon drum. Had it back in the sea to go out to my yacht and I have two issues.
1. There is water and exhaust coming from the two small holes at the rear of the upper casing. I don't remember this happening before! I cant remember which part of the upper housing they communicate with! And I cant work it out by looking at the schematic!
2. The engine sounds slightly different from what I remember, it has taken me several months to get the job done. It sounds a bit tinnier. I am concerned that I may have a leak at the exhaust gasket. Again I am having trouble remembering exactly how this went back together.
At this stage the engine is running fine. Any thoughts gratefully accepted.
