Having oil leak around the dust cap, so I purchased the trim rod removal tool. Screws would not turn. Used cheetah pipe and broke the pins on tool off! Screws must be seized up or did last mech. use Loctite. Any suggestions on how to remove them?

Spoke with Mike at Moto-Stop.com, they make the trim rod screw removal tool. He said if engine has been in saltwater the screw caps are corroded and the only way to loosen them is with a punch and hammer. The caps will be damaged and have to be replaced! He was right! -
Maybe too late now, but there's a product called Freeze-Off that uses a spray of very cold to loosen stuck nuts/bolts, etc....I've not tried it yet myself but hear that it can work very well, and especially where a torch/high temperature is not a viable alternative...Comment

A hot air gun blasting the outer surface of the cylinder will cause it to expand. Then, a piece of dry ice applied to the cap will cause it to shrink. Hopefully, the proper tool and the use thereof will allow the cap to be unscrewed.
Or, has the cap already been buggered up by using a punch and hammer?Comment

dumbest method I ever heard of.
however if you lower the engine down on the tool to hold the tool square on the cap then apply steady pressure and occasionally some heat.
then you will find it actually works well.Comment
