anyone use car engine stand for v6 yamaha rebuild? is it a good idea or not? appreciate your input

No reason that it won't work.

when i did mine cars and marine 4-cycle engines i wasn't afraid of shear force, but in delicate aluminium Yamaha it is somewhat scary.

I had a local machine/welding shop make a plate to fit my stand.
I bolt the block to the plate and I can lay it horizontal or flip it to vertical.

I have also simply built them on the work bench.
