will my 703 control work on a mid 80s Mercury 40hp?

i have seen friends use 704`s on mercs so im sure a 703 could, but im not sure about the wiring, some here will/should.

The 703 control box came in push to open throttle and pull to open throttle, lift the warm up lever on control box to see if pull's or pushes throttle cable. The 80 40HP is pull to open throttle. You can buy the throttle arm for control box to change it but the control box will have to completely disassembled to install new throttle arm.
