Spark Plug Part# Question

F225TLR sparkplug question – Yamaha’s part number is NGK-LFR6A-11-00. Advance Auto lists it as NGK-LFR6A-11.

Do the last two zeros on the Yamaha number signify a different part or are they one and the same? Is there any reason I should not buy plugs for an outboard from Advance Auto?

It is one and the same plug.

The actual plug number is LFR6A-11. It is manufactured by NGK.

Look at most any Yamaha part number for an outboard motor. They consist of three digits, then five digits, then two digits and then two digits. For example, the cylinder head into which the plug is screwed is Yamaha part number 6P2-W009A-02-9S.

Yamaha just took the NGK plug number and made up their own number by using NGK in the first three positions, LFR6A in the next five positions, then 11 in the next two positions and 00 in the last two positions.

An NGK is an NKG is an NGK spark plug. Whether it comes from Yam or an auto parts store. Yamaha buys their plugs from NGK by the way. Just like Advance Auto does.

its the numbering system.
in the above head example, 6P2 indicates the first model of a Yamaha of some kind that used that part.
the W009A indicates its a cylinder head assy and port or stbd side.

the 02 indicates an engineering design change.

the 9s indicates a paint color.

so to fit the NGK numbers into the Yamaha parts software it must have the correct amount of character spaces filled.
in the case of the spark plug the -11 simply indicates a pregapped plug at 1.1mm.
